Voting at The Newton School
In order to instill the importance of the right and responsibility of voting in our students, the Newton School participated in a realistic election simulation today, November 4th. Students were required to register prior to voting and present their voter registration cards prior to casting their ballots for the Virginia Governor and 2 important Newton School local referendums:
-The Newton School should have four spirit days in January 2026.
-The Newton School should have a free dress day on the last school day of each month.
Results:
Virginia Governor: Abigail Spanberger 86%, Winsome Earle-Sears 14%
Referendum 1: Spirit Days in January passed - 62% to 38%
Referendum 2: Free Dress days on the last Friday of the month passed - 85% to 15%
Many thanks to the amazing Ms. Swarns for a wonderful day of learning about elections and democracy!
