Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at The Newton School!
This week, our students worked hard on their online art project to celebrate their mothers! Once complete, the beautiful works were printed, framed and wrapped at The Newton School by a large group of helpers. Once the packages were ready to go, many elves delivered over 90 gifts to student’s homes – from Purcellville to Potomac, MD – to ensure the gifts were delivered to the doorsteps of the special people who make it all happen – the moms!
Celebrate a day of “normalcy” in the new era we live in. Take care!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day to our amazing teachers!!
We are in week 6 of the Distance Learning Program, and the students and teachers of The Newton School are doing a fantastic job! Students are reading new books, writing stories, sharpening their math abilities, learning about Current Events from around the world, enjoying their their social sessions with Mrs. Parks, and enjoying Movement each day. Many have been taking after school Spanish lessons, enhancing their Public Speaking skills, and learning to play the piano. It’s been an exciting – and unusual – time here at The Newton School! Way to go everyone! Check out the picture of our “new normal”!
Mrs. Griffiths’ class celebrates Earth Day by making posters in their Distance Learning Program.
For Multicultural Day this year, our 8th Grade students helped to organize a service project benefiting children and families impacted by the hurricane in the Bahamas. Students collected, organized and packaged every day needs such as soap, shampoos, dental hygiene products, and washcloths to be delivered directly to families in need. We coordinated with North County Charter School in Florida on this effort and we received word that our donations were successfully delivered this week! Thank you to all of the parents and students that made this wonderful project happen!
The Newton School provided a Distance Learning Program from March to June 2020. Learn more about our program by clicking the link below.
Our students in grades 2-8 have spent the last few weeks in Social class making puppets and creating a puppet show in order to practice their collaboration skills and growth mindset . Their hard work culminated in a puppet show for the entire school last Thursday. In Academy Award fashion, “Newtons” were awarded to the puppet shows deemed best in class.
On Friday, the students in grades K-3 took a short journey to the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum in Chantilly to discover the many engineering and aeronautic advancements over the last two centuries. Students challenged their fear of heights to view Dulles Airport through the Observation Tower, and felt the rush of flight through the biplane cockpit experience. In addition to those hands on activities, students toured and learned through the many exhibits, and were especially excited by the Space Shuttle discovery, displayed in all its glory in the NASA section! Our journey concluded with a generous trip to the gift shop for an item of their choice to take home and students returned to base(The Newton School) ready for the weekend! To infinity and beyond!
Recently, our fifth and sixth grade students had the honor of touring the United States Capitol and learning all about the law making home of government! Following an early lunch, the students and teachers traveled in style into our spacious charter bus and headed in DC to meet our wonderful tour guide. Within the Capitol, students discovered the rich history and surprising fun facts throughout the massive structure, taking note of various pieces of artwork and impressive architecture. When the guided tour concluded, we took a wonderful walk around the grounds and continued to marvel at its beauty and the surrounding spectacle of the Districts cityscape! It was an awesome afternoon of learning, taking advantage of the proximity of the District of Columbia and all that it has to offer our students!
