Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind

The Newton School welcomed a very hardworking guest this week, Gerry, the guide dog in training!  Gerry, a yellow lab, was joined by his trainer, Bridget Compton, who displayed Gerry’s intensive workload and talents to the students and staff.  Gerry, who is 11 months old, is in the first part of his training through The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, and in a few more months will be sent off to New York for further study before he becomes a companion and aide to a person who is blind or disabled.  Gerry spent most of his visit in his working vest, so we knew he wasn’t here to play or snuggle but our students admired his intense concentration, and calm, friendly demeanor!  It was a pleasure getting to meet Gerry and learn all about this important service!
